TAROTSCOPES for the week of 08/27/12

Hello All-o!

Welcome to this week.  Again, I offer the same treats as last week:  a card for all from the Amy von Harrington deck and also a song for each of you in the following mix (your song is specified in parenthesis, next to your card).

The card for everyone for this week is:

3 of Wands!

I read the 3 of Wands a little differently in Amy's deck than I do in my Motherpeace deck.  This week the focus is on exploring uncharted territory.  Push yourself to adventure.  This could take the form of a literal trip via plane, train, car, or it could be an emotional trip to previously unexplored areas of your internal landscape.  Perhaps you will embark on both.  But whatever or where ever you are investigating try to observe what you find without trying to change it, at least not until you've gotten to know it better.

I also offer individual intuitive tarot readings.  Please contact me for details: mwtarotscopes@gmail.com.

Thank you for tuning in!
Enjoy!
Love,
MW

ARIES
Aries, is some thought or obstacle currently plaguing you?  Do you go to sleep at night and in the morning still feel like you never closed your eyes because you continue to obsess over whatever problem has presented itself in your waking life?  Sometimes, when I feel this way, I wish someone would let a tiger loose on me so that I would have a more pressing and important situation to work out.  You can actually apply this scenario to any difficulty in your life.  Imagine the problem you are currently having is a wild animal that has escaped from the zoo.  How would you respond to it if it were chasing you through the streets?  Trust the instincts locked in your body to respond to this difficulty.  Let those intuitive impulses loose on the tiger in your life.  You may be surprised to find you already have everything you need to defeat the beast.
(Shaman of Discs Rev./ We Gotta Get Outta This Place- The Animals)

TAURUS
When I was in 4th grade my brother tried to convince me to present a project on recycling using interpretive dance.  I was terrified of public speaking so my brother suggested that expressing the process through movement might come more naturally.  He helped me choreograph the entire thing, but in the end I used an illustrated diagram inspired by the dance.  Taurus, you are not known for holding back where there is something to share.  But this week it seems, in your efforts to be more tactful and sensitive the feelings of others,  you are suppressing something that demands to be spoken.  Take a moment to get clear about the emotions or ideas on which you may be sitting.  It could be that what is waylaying you is not your ability to say it like you see it, but the frustration of not being able to see anything at all.  Consider first unlocking the problem with a new mode of expression that may come more naturally to you.
(3 of Wands Rev./ The Wind, Cat Stevens)

GEMINI
Imagine you are on a row boat lost at sea and all you have to eat is a pack of gum.  A tricked out speed boat with with a state of the art GPS comes out of no where to help you, but due to a dime-sized leak the thing is sinking.  Now you suddenly have the ability to save your savior as your savior saves you, see?  This week, try brainstorming all the dried up, desert areas in your life, Gemini.   Then take that list and find the ways in which these barren places might actually be a friend's oasis, a friend who might just be the camel you need.
(6 of Discs/ Shake Sugaree, Elizabeth Cotten)

CANCER
When I was in 7th grade I went out for track and field.  I wasn't fast enough to be a sprinter and the idea of running around the track more then once seemed like a death wish.  So the coach had me run the 800 meter, which was the race that all the people who were too afraid to run long distance and who weren't born sprinters ran.  I almost always came in last and as I closed in on the finish line each race someone in the bleachers inevitably said, "finish it up!"  I don't even think it was the same person every time, but as soon as I heard those words, it was like my own personal starting pistol went off.  In those last moments, I found a reserve burst of energy and I could double or even triple my speed.  Is there a race you don't feel you have the energy to run, Cancer? You might, in fact, have a reserve somewhere, you just need to hear a few key words in order to tap in to it.
(9 of Wands L/ Don't Take Your Guns To Town- Johnny Cash)

LEO
This week, Leo, I see you tackling obstacles in a lab coat.  You are like a sort of mad scientist, mixing chemicals and looking at amoebas under microscopes.  You also have a hypothesis you are determined to prove.  There is nothing wrong with this approach, but don't let your goggles keep your vision pointed toward a desire to be right and prevent you from seeing other possible outcomes.  Real scientists are delighted by failed experiments as well as successful ones because they've still achieved their goal of gathering new information on a particular problem, it's a win win.
(Son of Swords/ Down to Zero- Joan Armatrading)

VIRGO
You know that feeling of awkwardness you have when you've spent the whole day by yourself and then you go to a party and try to communicate with other people?  You can end up feeling like a total alien.  When I was really little I used feel this way all the time and my parents would tell me to, "just ask lots of questions."  Sometimes I actually imagined myself as Mork, from Mork and Mindy, asking people questions as if I didn't know how things were done on their planet.  I don't think anyone could tell that that was the story I was telling myself, I think they just thought I was a really polite little kid.  If you find yourself crawling out of cave into an intensely social situation this week, Virgo, try pretending you really are an alien and navigate the terrain from there.  I'm almost positive you will make new friends.
(4 of Discs Rev./ No Hiding Place- Dorothy Love Coates)

LIBRA
This week, Libra, you seemed to have followed an idea up onto the high dive.  You could camp out up there for a little while, but eventually you will probably be forced to make a decision.  You can either jump or try climb back down the ladder.  This diving board is hanging over a public pool and it is summer time and everyone has lined up behind you so back-tracking would, in all honesty, probably be the more humiliating option.  It doesn't always feel good in the moment, but you know from similar past situations that more often than not there is an incredible amount of relief when you finally take the leap and let go of whatever it is you've been holding onto.
(10 of Swords/ Life on Mars- David Bowie)

SCORPIO
Have you ever used a ouiji board or held a seance?  Do I even have to ask? Of course you've attempted communication with the dead! You are a Scorpio after all!  You may have noticed this sort of lag time between when you ask a question and when you receive an answer.  This week I see you in the in between, Scorpio.  You've sent out your questions into the ethers and now you are patiently awaiting some answers.  Get comfortable and keep your senses open and ready for communication.
(Daughter of Discs/ Baba O'Reily- The Who)

SAGITTARIUS
You are walking out onto the ice this week, Sag.  Not that you have to be careful, but just that no one can go with you where you are going.  This piece of the trip has to be navigated alone, but you are completely capable of handling it.  Whether or not you are actually old, in this scenario you possess the knowledge of a much older person.  Actually, you are more like a very old, wise penguin.  Trust your intuitive understanding of the cold, and also recognize you might be the only one who knows how to do what you are doing.  While there may not be any other penguins on this ice float, there is still familiarity.  You are at home.
(Priestess of Swords/ You Gotta Walk That Lonesome Valley- Mississippi John Hurt)

CAPRICORN
Say you are baking a cake, Capricorn.  Before you even begin mixing the ingredients you probably have some idea of the cake you are trying to make.  You probably began with the image before you even had all the ingredients.  Just an image of a cake can make you salivate.  You can probably imagine what the thick icing and the bittersweet chocolate will taste like.  This week you might find yourself mixing the cake, sticking it in the oven and for some reason, not turning on the heat.  Don't sabotage your efforts at the last moment, realize that you have practically already tasted the sweetness of your dreams.  You just have to turn up the flame and believe that what you want is just 30 minutes and a few hundred degrees from coming out of the oven exactly the way you imagined it.
(9 of Cups Rev./ Shangri-La- M. Ward)

AQUARIUS
When we were kids my brother, a neat freak, used to talk me into helping him clean the house while my parents were out by saying, "hey, I bet if we clean the whole house, mom and dad will give us money when they get home."  Of course this almost never happened, but I still helped him every time with the hope that some day they might give us some sort of tangible compensation.  This week, Aquarius, it is more like you cleaned without any thought to a reward and now, not only do you have a spotless house, you are being thrown a huge party (at someone else's house so you don't have to clean up).  It's kind of like a wedding, but you aren't actually getting married to anyone, or maybe you are, in any case the only thing left to do is celebrate.
(4 of Wands/ All Tomorrow's Parties- Nico)

PISCES
You know how when you look through a screen door your vision can kind of vacillate between bringing the screen and bringing whatever is beyond the screen into focus?  Drifting back and forth this way,  allowing yourself to see the details of what is in front of you and seeing everything on the other side is exactly what is going to help you on your journey, Pisces.  For now keep working at not letting yourself latch on to any one thing or person in particular.  It might be helpful to think about what you are experiencing right now as a kind of super power and observe any new insights you collect during this time.
(XI Strength/ Wide River- Charlie Feathers)

TAROTSCOPES for the week of 08/20/12

Hello and welcome back!

This week I'm adding a few extra gems.  First, I have pulled a general card for all of us on the zodiac wheel from a deck that I got as a birthday present that was created by the fabulous Amy von Harrington (vonharrington.com)!  This deck is such a wonderful smorgesbord.  Each card is like it's own picnic basket of thoughts, feelings, ideas, concepts, symbols, perversions, and desserts.  If you are interested in calling on the wisdom of these cards for yourself or giving them as a gift you can find the deck at Otherwild (otherwild.com), another love of mine!

Ok, now for the card for all for all of the week.........
THE CARD OF THE WEEK IS...........

XIX THE SUN!
Friends, do you feel summer slipping through your fingers like a thread trailing away on a beach towel? If school is one of the dominant structures in your life, perhaps the bell has rung and you are back behind, under or on top of your desk.  Or maybe just preparing for fall has made you feel that it has actually settled upon us.  Well the sun is still up!  Please don't rush into the night before you've fully explored what is illuminated by the sun.  There is joy and discovery right here and now.  Don't forget to reward yourself for your findings!

The second thing I've added for this week is a mix of songs, a song for each sign (I Want to Be With You in the Sun= Bridget St. John (for all), Sailboat in the Moonlight= Billie Holiday (for Aries), Keeping On= Holly Golightly (for Taurus), Sisers O Sisters= John Lennon and Yoko Ono (for Gemini), Try= Delta 5 (for Cancer), Down Where the Valleys are Low= Judee Sill (for Leo), Share Your Love with Me= Aretha Franklin (for Virgo), Ceaseless Effort= The Fates (for Libra), The Punk Singer= Julie Ruin (for Scorpio), If I Ruled the World= Nas with Lauren Hill (for Sagittarius), Ain't Got No, I Got Life= Nina Simone (for Capricorn), Born to Run= Emmylou Harris (for Aquarius), Qualquer Coisa= Caetano Veloso (for Pisces)).  Perhaps you can use the song as your anthem for the week or as just another way to touch in with what you might be feeling or dealing with.

In addition to tarotscopes I offer individual intuitive tarot readings.  Please contact me for details: mwtarotscopes@gmail.com.

Thank you all for reading!
Hearts,
MW Marts

ARIES
I've spent the week at my parents new house going through boxes of old pictures and papers trying to sort things out.  So that's where my brain is and why you get the first of many personal anecdotes, Aries.
When I was a kid my brother had this strange laugh that sounded like when you pluck a rubberband over an empty shoe box.  In retrospect, I think he was just going through puberty, but he explained it to me by saying he had a third lung.  I believed him completely until one day I was recounting the story to a skeptical friend and I asked my mother to confirm the tale of which I had been convinced.  She had a good laugh and set me straight.  I think I was slightly embarrassed, but mostly I felt kind of proud of my brother for coming up with such a good story.  This week you may find yourself rather vulnerable and it could leave you feeling foolish at times.  If you do, see if you can't laugh at the situation as deeply as if you had a third lung and know that you have to be open to extraordinary things for extraordinary things to happen.
(Daughter of Discs L)

TAURUS
Last week, Taurus, you may have encountered an uncomfortable situation that asked you to respond in ways uncharacteristic of a bull.  Perhaps that situation rattled your confidence and you are feeling a bit defeated.  So now might be a good time to remind yourself of that which you are capable.  Go ahead, flatter yourself, its all true.  Need some help?  You are famous on the zodiac wheel for your power to create, manifest and bring into being.  You are the earthiest earth, Taurus, and from you things grow.  This week I see that it is you yourself climbing up out of the mud to remind us all of what a powerful beast you can be.
(2 of Wands Rev.)

GEMINI
Gemini! Your back float on the open ocean has paid off and you are starting to tune in to what the stars might be spelling out.  This is so exciting because you are basically learning a new language.  Recently, while visiting my parents I found an old scrap of paper two-year-old me had decorated with squiggles.  Under the squiggles my mother had written a translation, "Hello, I would like to tell you a story."  Do you remember learning to read and write?  It is often such a gradual process that it is only in retrospect that you can see how far you have come.  What bits of wisdom are starting to become legible to you Gemini?  Keep up the good work of translating your squiggles into seeds of information.
(II High Priestess)

CANCER
Last week, feeling spread thin, you had a peanut butter and jelly bath and now you are pulling yourself up out of the water, hopefully, feeling more energized and rejuvenated.  In the movie Labyrinth, (I decided I can use this movie as a cool adult reference because David Bowie was in it) Jennifer Connelly has almost no time to get through a huge maze and it seems like everyone is trying to stop her by moving boulders and changing the rules.  Right at the very beginning you think she's going to give up because the maze just goes on and on forever and she doesn't have forever to get that baby back from DB.  But upon closer examination of the stone wall, she realizes there is actually an opening right in front of her face.  Don't let yourself get held up or thwarted by fake barriers this week, Cancer.  Remember "in the labyrinth of life everything is not what it seems" (which is what I think that little worm told Jen).
(5 of Swords Rev)

LEO
You know that skit on Saturday Night Live, Debbie Downer?  This week you might be a little like Debbie.  You might say things like, "of course there is a rush hour on the 101 on a Saturday when I'm trying to get to the beach" or "I knew my favorite restaurant would be closed, it's my birthday!"  One of the funniest things about the Debbie Downer skit was that none of the actors could keep a straight face.  So when you feel this week like things aren't going your way and "you just knew this was going to happen", imagine yourself as Debbie Downer.  Allow your laughter to ease and release your negative expectations.
(Daughter of Swords Rev)

VIRGO
The other day I was having brunch with a friend.  While we were talking, I leaned back in my chair and stretched my arms out behind me.  My fingers hit something wonderfully soft and fluffy.  It took me a minute to realize what I had done.  I quickly turned around and apologized for running my hands through a strangers hair.  This week Virgo, deep feelings are brewing beneath you.  For Virgos, sometimes expressing these emotions can feel uncomfortably intimate, like stroking a stranger's head.  But please do allow the feelings to take form, whether it is a creative project or a profound and meaningful conversation.  Don't hold back what you have to share.
(6 of cups)

LIBRA
When my brother was a teenager he used to have a real problem with sleepwalking.  One night my mother followed him outside and found him sitting in the passenger seat of our old van.  This is where you might wake up and find yourself this week Libra.  Its easy to feel overwhelmed and frustrated when you've given yourself the task of trying to drive a car from the passenger seat.  Figure out what you need to do to get back behind the wheel.  The summer sun is still shining and the open road awaits.
(VII Chariot Rev)

SCORPIO
This week I see you as an architect, working with plans that are inside out and upside down.  You've been scratching your head over them for awhile now and finally its starting to take shape.  But you are realizing that whatever you were building doesn't hold water or even space and nobody seems to care about all your hard work.  No one is more disappointed than you, Scorpio, because it was your sweat and brow-furrowing that went into that structure.  Go easy on yourself.  You've done exactly what you were asked to do.  The frustration you might be feeling is just an indicator that you are probably better off working with your own plans than someone else's.
(3 of Discs Rev)

SAGITTARIUS
Sag!   You are so good at building a fire and all around this light you keep the party glowing.   But this week rather than being the social glue you may have to call on another of your innate talents: standing up for what you believe in.  Trust in your ability to see the big picture.  Others maybe shouting at you with their nose against the bark of a tree.  You may be the only one fortunate enough to have a good view of the forest.  What you see may be an important perspective on a complicated issue.  Root yourself in what you know to be true and speak from there.  You could be unearthing something deep down and others will ultimately be grateful you stood your ground.
 (7 of Wands)

CAPRICORN
Years ago I was playing scrabble at a family gathering.  I remember watching my aunt, an artist, talking to my mother about something as she waited to take her turn.  While she was talking she was absent-mindedly playing with her tiles, arranging them in patterns and making shapes.  It struck me then that being an artist is about more than just drawing or painting or sculpting.  It is a part of everything you do, down to a scrabble game.  Get in touch this week, Capricorn, with what is essentially you.  Notice the joy and creativity that is imbued in everything you do, from your morning routine, to the way you walk to work.  Know that it is all just as important and just as much a part of you as the art you ultimately create.
(8 of discs)

AQUARIUS
How do you feel about wild horses, Aquarius?  I think I know the answer, but for some reason this week you seem to be trying to build them a corral.  Last week, the good times were thundering like a thousand hooves against your chest and you don't want them to stop.  Now, a shadow may roll in over the sun leaving you anxious and protective of your joy.  These emotions are like wild horses, they need room to breathe.  See if you can figure out how to let them be without having to build up barricades, even when faced with a potential storm brewing on the horizon.
(IV Emperor)

PISCES
Recently, while visiting Portland, some friends and I went down to the water to get out of the heat.  We were just lazily lounging on the rocks while a parade was going by on the river.  Groups of people on all different kinds of floatation devices were drifting down stream.  There were what looked like entire living rooms passing us by.  I saw a mother and daughter on an inflatable couch looking disgruntled and a dog nervously clinging to its person on an inner tube.  Then I saw someone all by himself limply looped through two donuts with his butt facing down river.  I noticed his face was completely placid as his smile drifted serenely past us.  Here Pisces, is you this week. After the confusion of last week, you've earned your trip.  Know that the decision you are making, to give up the power kick and let the water carry you on course for a bit, is exactly where you need to be.

WEEKLY TAROTSCOPE

TAROTSCOPE
by yours truly MW

This is a weekly horoscope based on Tarot that I am going to be posting every Monday.

ARIES
Here we are in the afterglow of the Olympic games and this week there is an emphasis on the accomplishment of physical goals. Ram, I sense that you are heading down the mountain, horns forward. This is not to say that the road to your own personal success is simple or even that there is a road there at all. But this week gravity seems to have its hand to your back and it may feel only natural to move forward in the direction of your dream. Don't run so fast that you forget to look up at the stars, which will remind you of what your goals truly are: the ones that twinkle.
(VII Chariot)

 TAURUS
I'm having trouble finding a good description for what you may encounter this week Taurus, and this is because the gray you may be feeling is not concrete. You could find yourself in a situation that feels most unnatural to you. Something leaves you uncertain of where you stand or even what your opinion is on the matter. You bulls are famous for putting your foot down firmly enough to leave a print, so not knowing where to tread can rattle your earthy foundations. Practice being a Ferdinand and enjoy the flowers in the field. Take in all the sights and sounds around you and take a vacation from the usual bullfight.
 (7 of Wands Rev.)

GEMINI
Were you one of those kids who thought there was a monster in your closet and later discovered it was just a few folded sweaters? While I admire your creativity Gemini, you should know that right now you are running right into the ocean at midnight. It will be impossible to ascertain whether what you saw was Nessie or just a reflection on the water. Something is moving deep inside and it may be a mermaid but you must have the patience to wait for dawn. As poet Matthew Arnold said, "Not till the hours of light return | All we have built do we discern."
(XVIII Moon)

CANCER
Cancer, you make an excellent host. You can pour champagne and light a cigarette at the same time. You can entertain your guests with ghost stories while you make foie gras souffle hors d'oeuvres. These are great party tricks, but meeting more than one need at a time in other areas of your life can be exhausting. Think about whose needs you are meeting and why. Consider putting your multitasking abilities to work for yourself this week. Have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in a hot bath and meditate on who and what you want to give your time to.
 (2 of Discs)

LEO
This week you get my lucky Los Angeles car metaphor. You can't turn a corner in a parked car, Leo. Its not time to make a decision just yet, but also know that you definitely can't go anywhere if the key isn't in the ignition. Don't worry about how much gas you are wasting or time you are taking or if you are going to have to turn around. Do some donuts in the parking lot! Enjoy the expanse and the breeze! Like Gemini, you are on a midnight voyage and you don't have to pretend to have any answers. Just keep your eyes open and read the signs.
(Daughter of Discs Rev.)

VIRGO
While looking at umbrellas online this week I stumbled upon a video on how to start a fire with your pee and a plastic bag. The scenario presented in the video was that someday you might find yourself stranded in the wilderness with a sack lunch and no water. By peeing into a plastic bag and tying it tightly you can make a clear shiny ball to conduct sunlight and generate heat as you would with a magnifying glass. Look around you Virgo. What can you use to start a fire? It is time to come up with new ways of taking care of yourself. Your frustrations are calling out to your innate creativity for resolution.
 (5 of Discs Rev.)

 LIBRA
It has been damn hot this week Libra! All that sun is shining right on your pumpkin patch and those fruits are finally starting to show a slight glow of orange. This can be a hard time because you are finally beginning to see what it could grow into. It is full of potential, but it is also a tenuous moment for your pumpkin baby.  So please keep giving it lots of water and wait for the full luminescence before you snatch it off the vine.
 (7 of Discs)

 SCORPIO
Have you been working too hard lately Scorpio? Or maybe you've been running too fast and suddenly you look behind you and your feet are still at the top of the hill where you departed from. Go easy. Tell your brain to time out for a second and give your feet a chance to catch up. You Scorpios are a very diligent and business minded bunch, but you are also watery and emotional. Your highest peak and strongest point is your ability to use both. Don't let your work ethic upend your cup. Take a moment to touch in with your softer side.
 (Son of Cups Rev.)

 SAGITTARIUS
Sag, you are in the groove and you made that groove yourself. You've worked hard and worn down your own road.  Whatever it is you do, you know how to do it. You know this because you can turn around and see all the things you've walked through to get here. There will no doubt be more mountains ahead and maybe even a fire breathing dragon, but with fire you are in your element.
(Shaman of Discs)

 CAPRICORN
When I was a teenager a close friend confided in me that sometimes when she closes her eyes at night she sees a bunch of faces screaming at her. Recently my mother told me that when she closes her eyes at night she sees the most beautiful patterns and colors and she wishes she could make a painting as pretty as the backsides of her eyelids. Right now the pictures behind your eyelids may be all banshees and hobgoblins. This week is a good time to confront each of those gremlins individually and see if you can't begin to transform them into something you'd want to paint.
 (9 of Swords Rev.)

AQUARIUS
You are in love! Are you in love? Least of all with life? Your symbol Aquarius, is a wave above and a wave below. You have such a light, shimmery surface that others are drawn to, but sometimes others may not know how to connect with the part of you that flows more deeply. Put your hands in the water all the way to the sand this week.   Actually, hold someone else's hand and plunge down into the sand together.
(2 of Cups)

PISCES
You are the oldest sign in the zodiac, Pisces, and you can be quite mystical, but that doesn't mean you are always the wisest. When I was a kid I walked on hot coals. It wasn't a magic trick it was just a dumb mistake, but I don't regret it and I don't judge myself for it. I also don't recommend it. Take sometime in your fishbowl this week Pisces.  Listen to the Beatles or Beatles cover, "Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream...lay down all thoughts, surrender to the void. It is shining.  It is shining"

Oh that Rain that Rain at the Garden Party

My second full day in Singapore. The day before Christmas Eve and mom and I spent the day from mall to mall due to a down pour. A mall is a mall is a mall is a mall. Malls: they all start to blur together, there are very few distinguishing factors so this post is a bit scant. The bottom picture is the beginning of our day and the top picture is the end.
I included another bathroom because they are so beautiful here! Halls of mirrors on the walls in the malls.
The "naughty" picture was a sex toy window display which I thought was unusual given Singapore's reputation for be very conservative. I didn't get a good shot of the toys but they were very well made.

While mom and I were waiting for the bus I noticed someone left a handkerchief on the bench at the stop. Then when we got on the bus the first thing I saw was a woman holding a handkerchief over her mouth. It explained everything.
